Only Visiting This Planet
Only Visiting This Planet is Part One of Larry's trio of records known as The Trilogy.
More than three decades after its release, Only Visiting This Planet is regarded as a landmark recording in the history of contemporary Christian music. Originally released in 1972, the album was voted in 1990 by CCM magazine as the greatest Christian album ever recorded. I can't say we disagree ;-)
The All Music Guide says that "this record truly shines with great lyrics sung to great melodies... the power and passion of "I Wish We'd All Been Ready" is unmistakable and understatedly intense. Other songs such as "The Outlaw" take on the ballad song form to sing about Jesus in a timeless Dylan-esque manner. "The Great American Novel" sings through tears of despair about hypocrisy among both Christians and non-Christians alike. This is the record that begat a thousand cliches, but the sincerity with which Norman's message is delivered belies any skepticism for the triteness of his words. Sarcasm and humor also grace this record in the form of "I Am the Six O'Clock News" and "Reader's Digest." This record is a one-of-a-kind collection."

So Long Ago The Garden, part two of a trilogy that included Only Visiting This Planet and In Another Land, was attacked by the Christian press when it came out in 1973. Controversial at the time for both its lyrical content and "provocative" album cover, it has gone on to become one of the most respected releases in Larry Norman's career.
"...there are plenty of highlights, including "Christmas Time," with its footloose Rolling Stones swagger, and the incredible "Meet Me at the Airport (Fly, Fly, Fly)." Lyrically, this is one of Norman's more elliptical efforts in terms of its Christian references; however, the message is quite clear. Just underneath the '70s British rock dialect and shimmering songwriting is a defiant sermon that staunchly proclaims Norman's identity as a devout Christian outsider." - All Music Guide

In Another Land
In Another Land is honest, raw and humble. Larry Norman, with this album, showed he was a force to be reckoned with in Christian music. 1972's Only Visiting the Planet had already taken root and shook the hallowed doors of CCM. 1975's In Another Land took it farther, producing a seminal inspiration of musicians for over 30 years. Now, as his songs have been covered by everyone from DC Talk to Frank Black (Pixies), it is worth looking at the originals.
In Another Land contains some of his most well-known songs, including "The Rock That Doesn't Roll," "Righteous Rocker #3," "Why Don't You Look Into Jesus," and "I Am a Servant."
1. The Rock That Doesn't Roll 2. I Love You 3. U.F.O. 4. I've Searched All Around The World 5. Rightous Rocker #3 6. If God Is My Father 7. Look Into Jesus 8. I Am A Servant 9. Upon This Rock
When Upon This Rock was first released in 1969 it didn't fit into any genre of commercial music. There had never been an album like it, and no one knew what to do with it or quite what to make of it. Its vinyl grooves contained the Christian message presented with modern modalities in a rock and roll syntax, which had never been done before, and it came as a shock to conservative Gospel Music fans. But it struck a chord with a small handful of people whose numbers swelled in the following years.
Other Christian Rock artists and groups sprang up, inspired and encouraged by Larry's vision, and over time a nascent Christian "Music Industry" ballooned into the multi-million dollar genre it is today, thanks in no small part to the clarion call contained in the songs on this, the first Christian Rock record.
Solid Rock Records is proud to present to you, Upon This Rock.

Larry Norman, brother Charles and friend Jason have rebalanced the tracks, given them brand new equalizations, trimmed the drop offs and even corrected a few rhythm problems to make this re-release of Something New as shiny as possible.
Larry went all the way back to the original masters of the album. The initial distributors never used the original tapes. They were sent "dubs" and told Larry they weren't interested in such a negative, non-Christian album such as this. Then five years later decided they would release it. But Larry was in Europe and they didn't have the original master tapes.
Larry has even included the eight minute / thirty six second extended play tape he made back in 1976. This is Solid Rock at the height of its power, and the bottom of its heart. This album has never sounded so good.

Stranded In Babylon
Although never officially released in America through the stores because of Larry's heart attack in 1992, this album WAS released in Europe and was named "ALBUM OF THE YEAR" by all of the critics and Christian rock journals. For those who thought Larry had lost his gift for music because of the airplane accident, this album was quite a surprise. Stranded In Babylon has been widely regarded as "the modern equal to Only Visiting This Planet."

Tourniquet
This album was released to great acclaim as Larry roared through Britain on what turned out to be his last tour. It couldn't quite complete itself to meet Larry's deadline for departure and therefore was missing a lead vocal on its final song: "Near".
That was remedied when several years after Larry's near death and emergency surgery returned him to a paler version of his former self, he was able to complete the project.
Like "Stranded In Babylon" before it, "Tourniquet" was co-written with, and produced by, his brother Charly and matched its predecessor in terms of critical acclaim and influence in Europe. The "Father of Christian Rock" proved that even in old age he was still capable of thought provoking lyrics and valid social commentary.

Live At Seaside DVD
This is a beautifully filmed DVD or Larry and the seven other people he brought from America to Skjaersgaard for the Seaside Festival. The multi-camera shoot is right up in your grill as they moved invisibly around the stage capturing the concentration and joy of the band. It was called by many "the best concert Larry Norman ever did."
The majesty and musicanship of the players on stage and the background singing support is what made the performance sound more like a stereo recording on virgin vinyl.
The concert was full of surprises. Larry brought his neighbor, Mark Lemhouse, the winner of the Muddy Waters award and two nominations for two W.C. Handy Awards and for Best Contemporary Blues Album, the 2004 Grammy Award .
And after this amazing concert DVD closes with a very strong performance of "I Wish We'd All Been Ready" Solid Rock has added the famous concert from long ago, when the group Himlavasen backed him up for Christian music's very first, live, on the spot concert web caste.
And there is an additional bonus on this DVD: a personal interview with Larry speaking to Tron Mathisen in Europe.

Live At Elsinore DVD
The old man came out to play at the most celebrated theater in the capitol city of Salem, Oregon. He sold out the concert in the large, historic Elsinore Theatre and broke all existing merchandise sales by three or four times. He charmed the city of Salem as he displayed his gifts to the uninitiated. Not only had so many travelled from countries all around the world to see this concert, but the unchurched Salemites poured in and Larry gave them a variety show that was too long for one DVD. He brought five blind boys from Liberia, Africa to sing, Julie Hoy the well-known Catholic chanteuse, Michael Manning and his Musical Saw, the greatly talented Severin Sisters, a set of twins who play bluegrass banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin and cello. And for a final surprise, the lead singer for The Pixies, Black Francis nee Frank Black (. . . the single biggest source of inspiration for Kurt Cobain and Nirvana and the whole grunge movement, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, etc.)
This is quite an amazing film; more like a fast-paced variety show and this is the best video / DVD that Larry has ever released.

Guards of Metropolis - Alligator
Larry's brother Charles and his band: Influences from the laid-back northern reaches of Scandinavia and the frantic West Coast of America collide on the Guards of Metropolis' debut album in a shimmering example of the best that both countries have to offer. A fistful of angst-driven rock and roll riffs tempered by the layered harmonies that Scandinavian groups are famous for lay the groundwork for this rock-pop manifesto. Think ABBA meets AC/DC...and then think again. Each song comes as a stylistic surprise, and the lyrics are almost literary at times; songs such as "Tired" and "Postcards From Heaven" shine a pastel light on the bi-polar human condition, while the songs "Already Gone" and "Don't Wanna Be Like You" throw contemptuous epithets at the vacuous lifestyles of the Hollywood hangers-on they encountered while writing the album in Los Angeles. Rage never sounded as pretty as it does on this stunning debut!
1. Perfect World 2. Exhole 3. Don't Wanna Be Like You 4. Down 5. How Does It Feel (To Be Unreal?) 6. The Way You Are 7. Postcards from Heaven 8. On My Own 9. Tired 10. Fadeaway 11. Already Gone 12. Why 13. Alligator

Randy Stonehill - The Sky Is Falling
The Sky Is Falling has been out of print for years. This is a re-issue with a new booklet, new photos, brand new e.q. and new mastering done with new technology. This sounds great and these thirteen songs are among some of Randy's most significant compositions. "Postcards From The Heart" was recorded during The Sky Is Falling Sessions. It is about Randy's parents. "King of Hearts" is the full orchestra version which Randy wanted to make. The rock version was released instead. This is that orchestral version. "Good News" is from the audio-synch version of the movie BBC released. Larry produced the session and organized the booking and has the 24 track 2" tapes of it. He hopes to release the entire Stonehill and Band concert by next year.
